Brief History
of KGSHIA
Kogi State Health Insurance Agency (KGSHIA) was established by law in April 2019 to provide equitable access to quality and affordable healthcare services to all residents of Kogi State through health insurance in order to meet global target of attaining Universal Health Coverage by 2030.
Sequel to the 2015 National Council on Health (NCH) resolution where-in states were encouraged to establish State Social Health Insurance Agencies to help the country accelerate the journey to Universal Healthcare Coverage, His Excellency Alhaji Yahaya Bello, the Executive Governor of Kogi State immediately gave the Ministry of Health, a matching order to kick start the process of establishing a state Health Insurance Agency which birthed KGSHIA.

KGSHIA offers three distinct plan tiers designed for the full spectrum of Kogi residents,from government employees to market traders.
Pensioners Contributory Health Insurance Plan(PENCHIP) — ₦15,000/annum
Tertiary Institutions Social Health Insurance Programme (TISHIP) — ₦2000/session
Vital Contributory Health Insurance Plan(VITALCHIP) — ₦15,000/annum
Civil Servants — Monthly deductions Via Payroll Systems
Kogi State Health Insurance Agency
Ensuring that every resident of Kogi State has access to qualitative and affordable healthcare services.
Year of Establishment
The bill establishing the agency was passed into law on November 18, 2018, and the state governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello assented to the law in April 24, 2019.
Enrolled
The Kogi Health Insurance Agency has enrolled over 31,000 enrollees across Kogi state.
Health Facilities
There are currently over 300 accredited health facilities under The Kogi Health Insurance Agency across the State where enrollees of the agency can access care.
The Pioneers
The Agency wishes to acknowledge the support of His Excellency the Executive Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, the State Ministry of Health under the able leadership of its Commissioner; Dr. Saka Haruna and The Executive Secretary Dr Aledare Adekunle, for the take-off of the Agency with a view to support the attainment of Universal Healthcare Coverage (UHC) in line with government's commitment towards providing quality and affordable healthcare services to the people of Kogi State.
