KGSHIA Board Assures Enrollees of Improved Healthcare Services
The Board of the Kogi State Health Insurance Agency (KGSHIA) has reaffirmed its commitment to improving service delivery and ensuring equitable access to quality healthcare for all enrollees across the state.
This assurance was given by the Chairman of the Board, Pharm. Suberu Arikochonu, at the end of the Board’s first-quarter meeting for the year 2026 held at the Agency’s conference hall in Lokoja. He emphasized that the Agency remains focused on strengthening its operational framework to better serve the healthcare needs of residents.
Pharm. Arikochonu acknowledged concerns previously raised by enrollees, particularly the persistent issue of the “out-of-drug syndrome” in some healthcare facilities. He noted that the Agency has made significant progress in addressing these challenges and is taking further steps to eliminate them entirely. According to him, KGSHIA is set to collaborate closely with the State Drug Management Agency to tackle the problem more effectively and ensure consistent availability of essential medications across accredited facilities.
The Board Chairman expressed appreciation to fellow Board members and the management team of the Agency for their dedication and constructive contributions, which he said have been instrumental in sustaining the Agency’s progress and impact.
Earlier in the meeting, the Executive Secretary of KGSHIA, Dr. Adekunle Aledare, presented a comprehensive appraisal of the Agency’s performance for the last quarter of 2025. He highlighted that the Agency has continued to carry out its statutory supervisory role over healthcare providers across the state, ensuring compliance with established standards and improving the quality of services delivered to enrollees.
Dr. Aledare further disclosed that the Agency has intensified efforts to expand enrollment by deploying staff to facilitate the registration of more residents into the health insurance scheme, particularly through the integration of the National Identification Number (NIN). He noted that this initiative has significantly boosted enrollment figures, thereby expanding coverage and access to healthcare services.
In addition, the Executive Secretary revealed plans to scale up public awareness and sensitization campaigns in the current year, with particular emphasis on the Vital Contributors Health Insurance Plan. He explained that increased publicity would encourage more members of the public to enroll, ultimately strengthening the financial base and sustainability of the scheme.
Contributing to the discussions, a Permanent Member of the Board, Hon. Jacob Abraham, advocated for stronger collaboration between KGSHIA and other health and security-related parastatals in the state. He stressed that enhanced inter-agency cooperation would improve efficiency, drive better outcomes, and support the Agency in achieving its core mandate of delivering accessible and affordable healthcare to the people.
The meeting concluded with a renewed resolve by the Board and management to consolidate ongoing reforms and introduce innovative strategies aimed at improving service delivery, expanding coverage, and ensuring that all enrollees receive timely and quality services.
